Essent integrates GIS and SAP


Continuity in the energy supply is highly important to Essent. Insight into the status of its own electricity and gas networks is therefore essential. After all, the appropriate information shows not only how networks can function at an optimum, but also what must happen to keep them reliable and efficient in future. Therefore, Essent’s objective is to provide near-real time information across the entire network. An increasing number of users – at the office as well as in the field – must be able to get geographic information about the networks.

Integration of SAP and Smallworld GIS


Energy company Essent created a standardisation project for its southern grid, under the name Neptunus. It covers the Brabant grid and the Limburg grid. Thanks to the link between SAP-R/3 and the geographically based resources system GE Smallworld, maintenance and investment plans can be drawn up based on consistent, unambiguous and transparent digital data. From now on, construction, maintenance, finance, purchasing and logistics are standardised in the systems for the six regions making up Network South.
