ESRI SAP integration

ESRI_SAP_LOGO

On January 31st 2008 Marc van de Ven (manager at Province Noord-Brabant) together with Realworld Systems and SAP-Partner TopForce showed the result of an ESRI-SAP integration application and a SAP-ESRI application.

The integration combined the financial data in SAP-FI/CO "Sponsored projects in spatial development" with geographical data. Managers of Spatial development can now match planned goals for the Province with the actual projects in a spatial context.

The Province Noord-Brabant offered us their SAP Netweaver and ArcGIS Server test systems. Some data had to be digitized and entered in SAP during the pilot.

The following management queries were answered in the pilot case:

1. Show a map with projects with goal X

2. Show a map with projects and results with goal X in area Y

3. Show a map with projects that had a budget over € 50.000 and were located in area A, B, C

4. Find within a polygon a project part or project and show a list with project names, goals, amounts and costs

5. Show a thematic map per municipality with the project costs

6. Show a thematic map with bar charts per municipality for the project goals

Desktop application

Realworld Systems developed an ArcEngine application that connects to a SAP-webservice to collect SAP data based on project-ID's. The advantage of this application is that it is not as complex as ArcMap and shows only the specific functions that managers need.

Another advantage over web-based applications is that no spatial functions have to be programmed as they are already available in ArcGIS.

TopForce developed a SAP-portal application that connects to the mapservice in ArcGIS Server and shows a map.  When a project is selected in SAP the area in the map is highlighted.
